During the past years, significant progresses have been achieved in Africa with regards to the economy as well as democratic governance. Yet the continent continues to be perceived negatively by the public opinion of the North. This 12 part documentary series will attempt to draw a fair and balanced image of Africa portraying the current positive developments in the continent, as to balance out the current negative image often shown in the media. The programme is being produced with the help of volunteers and thanks to the financial contribution of the AfBD.

This project was designed to address a crucial natural resource management challenge facing the world today : the need for effective strategies and methods to help communities in dryland areas to improve their management of scarce water resources. Throughout Africa, and particularly in dryland areas, access to adequate quantity and quality of water is among the greatest constraints to both development and habitat protection. The efficient use of scarce water resources is therefore key to both economic progress environmental quality. This project supports capacity-building, pilot investments and dissemination activities around micro-irrigation and sustainable and management (SLM), in an integrated way.The objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable land management in order to maintain and improve ecosystem health, stability, integrity, functions and services, and at the same time support sustainable livelihoods in Senegal.

The project equips communities, institutions and NGOs through training, knowledge exchange and practical exemplar projects with the capacity to respond to climate change, enabling them to anticipate and minimize impacts on the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable people.
The project's main objective is to strengthen the capacity of communities and local institutions to respond to the threats and consequences of climate change in Southern and West Africa. This project is possible thanks to the collaboration of LEAD FA, LEAD SEA and LEAD International and with the support of DFID and communities in Senegal and Malawi.

Leadership is critical to addressing the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change. The onset of climate impacts combined with new policy frameworks and funding mechanisms require the building of institutional and human capacity, the strengthening of governance and provision of an enabling environment for climate action. In recognition of this, LEAD Africa has since 2007 begun to look at leadership on climate issues in Africa as part of our wider environment and development agenda.
