Over the last fifteen years, LEAD has build up considerable experience in working with community groups as to give them greater capacity to make sustainable development decisions and to positively influence local and national policies that affect them. In this time we have witnessed the value of promoting strong leadership at the community level and the power this has to build positive change and generate sustainable livelihoods. Examples of projects include : - Establishment of community ICT Resource Centres. LEAD Africa is the process of replicating these centres throughout the continent, as part of efforts towards narrowing the digital divide. - Provision of Safe and Sustainable Fresh Water Sources
- Climate Change Adaptation Projects - Watershed Conservation and Management
- Promotion of a balanced image of Africa Central to LEAD Africa's vision of an emergent generation of African leaders is a 'can do' attitude with vision, skills, knowledge and above all self-belief. However, in our work we have consistently noticed that the manner in which Africa is portrayed in the media, both in Africa and internationally, works in opposition to this. We have begun to address the effect that this portrayal has on enterprise, belief, leadership, and above all, on the creation of opportunity in Africa. LEAD Africa believes that working towards a balanced image of Africa is essential in achieving an accurate reflection of the reality of everyday life in Africa and ultimately conveying positive messages to young Africans. Africa has turned a corner in recent years and it is important that positive messages and success stories are told and that new models of leadership are showcased through that process. In this regard we are initiating a number of partnerships with media groups to develop programmes aimed at reflecting a more positive and balanced picture of Africa.
LEAD Africa, through the three regional African LEAD member programmes, the LEAD Associations and individual fellows across the continent initiate and implement projects aimed at creating positive change and impact at the grassroots level. Networkingtraining and capacity
